I'm doing the Race For Life

Have you missed the news that I'm doing the Race For Life on July 9th 2011?

This is a 5k event (a little over 3 miles for those of us who use "old money") and I'll be taking part at the Showground here in sunny Lincoln, Lincolnshire!   I hope to run the whole way - not a bad ambition for somebody who's only been running again  for 12 weeks after a gap of 35 years!!  

Race For Life is in aid of Cancer Research UK and funds research into treatments and cures for cancer.   I've been unlucky enough to have quite a few family members affected by cancer as well as friends and people I've worked for. I have family who have died of cancer, friends and family who are currently fighting cancer and some who have fought and WON! Yay!

Not only am I racing for those who are currently fighting, in the hopes that better treatments will become available I'm also racing for my lovely daughter and her girlfriend and for everyone who's lives have not yet been blighted with cancer, in the hope that one day a cure will be found and we wont have to be afraid if we're diagnosed.

On Race Day I'll be getting dressed up in my lovely pink tu-tu,  fairy wings,  headband,  and running gear but the most important item I'll have with me are my Ribbons.  On these ribbons are the names of my family and friends who have been diagnosed with cancer. Most recent of all is my Uncle Bernard who passed away on 3rd May 2011 of lung cancer.
