June which suddenly turned into August Update!

Yes, that's right - June turned into August and I must admit that I have reverted back to being an Idle Sod!

A combination of getting cheesed off with the jogging club I was running with and the (rare and unusual) hot weather we've been having here in the UK this summer means that I've been utterly de-motivated and unwilling to get out there running!
That's the bad news.   The good news - I've started to get back into the swing of things by doing the odd mile just to get the old legs working again.  It's amazing how quickly you get out of condition and it's also interesting how many excuses I can make to keep myself on the sofa rather than getting out there to do some exercise!  Truly idle.  Having done an odd couple of miles I must report that I ache rather a lot even though I paid particular attention to pre and post running stretches!   Lets hope that September is a better month for me!

In the meanwhile I found a funny picture. When I'm 90 and I look back on my blog I hope it'll make me smile as much as it did when I found it last week!

Until the next time.

The Merry Month Of May - From Idle Sod, to Love To Jog - and back again!

Neil and I returned to Egypt on 5th  May for a two week holiday and my intention had been to use the treadmill in the morning when it was reasonably cool, however, even at 7am the temperatures were hitting the 85* mark, and even hotter in the air conditioned gym!  There was also a crazy little man in the gym who hogged the treadmill when I wanted to use it!

Didn't he know that my urge to run had to be satisfied there and then otherwise it would wane and I'd become an idle sod again very quickly?!

The first time I encountered Crazy Man I took myself outside and had a quick run outdoors - the gardeners looked at me as though I was crazy. The security guards looked bemused. I soon gave that up as a bad idea as I appeared to have slipped into the persona of Crazy Lady!

I soon found myself stuck in Idleness when Neils dad became very ill and we spent several days just looking after him (I guess I wasn't being idle - I was just busy doing other more important stuff!) and never quite managed to find my way back to the gym after that!

Once we got back home I had a few days off work and found an excuse not to go out with the Lincoln City Joggers on the first Wednesday after our holiday. On the Friday I found an excuse not to go out to do a solo run. On the Sunday the joggers were doing a race somewhere so I had another excuse to be idle and decided not to head out.

Idleness was taking hold!

Jumping on the scales I found that I'd put on a whole half stone during that month of holidaying and being bone idle.

It has taken me til June to really get back to grips with getting my arse in gear and my feet in my running shoes.   In June I got my very first Running Blister - and damned painful it was too!  Having forked out £80 for shoes I now find I can't run in them as they're rubbing the edge of the arch of my left foot.  Goodness knows why. They were very comfortable for the first 40 or so miles I used them.  Maybe my feet are just making a token protest at being expected to run again?

Hopefully June will see me loosing some of the weight, leaving blisters behind and getting some more miles under my belt....

We shall see...

PS you may have noticed that I have a race in my schedule - the Notfast 10k.   I shall be entering into the spirit of things and I intend to go NotFast.  I will settle for finishing, especially if it's a warm day and my shoe problem isn't resolved!

April - Another Year Older

During April I hoped to continue running 3 times a week, distances over 5 miles each time. I didn't expect to cover as many miles as last month (92.22 miles total)

APRILS TOTAL MILES: 65 MILES

The month didn't go particularly well. It started off ok with a few good runs but I fell ill with with a sickness bug on 12th. Although I was only very poorly overnight I did loose 4lbs during that one night and spent all of the following day feeling very weak and unwell, with the most strenuous thing on my mind being a shuffle to the loo and back. I slept off and on for 14 hours the night after and decided it was a very bad idea to go running when I've not eaten anything proper for over 24 hours. It's not like me to be unwell as I usually have a cast iron constitution. Getting back to running went ok although it has clearly impacted on the number of miles I will logged during the month!  We also spent a weekend away in Sheffield when I took Neil to see Meat Loaf which caused me to miss two of my planned runs.
