I have now graduated to Week 3 of the Couch to 5K workout! I'm still not convinced that I'll ever make a runner but I'm going to give it my very best try! Monday has dawned and I'm still full of a cold. I was up coughing in the night again and have decided not to go to work again today or tomorrow (I would hate to pass this on to my service users) however, I will NOT be put off doing my workouts.
The Week 3 Workout consists of a 5 minute brisk walk to warm up followed by 2 reps of the following : Jog for 90 seconds, Walk for 90 seconds, then jog for 3 minutes followed then walk for 3 minutes then repeat the interval jogging and walking for a total of 15 minutes finishing off with a 5 minute cool-down (walk) I find that walking at 3.7mph is comfortable for me and I plan to jog at 4.4 or 4.5mph
This weeks DISTANCE TARGET is 15 miles (walking/jogging combined)
This weeks DISTANCE TARGET was met.

Daily Notes:
MONDAY : C25K Workout - I think I'm over the worst (health wise) so I found today's workout easy enough. I was a little disappointed that I didn't cover any more distance than last weeks workout when I was supposedly doing more walking and less jogging. I hope that as the weeks progress I cover more distance without having to increase my speed too much. It is my intention to nail the 5k before trying to increase my speed.
TUESDAY: Rest Day - Well, not exactly a rest day - just a c25k rest day - I've still been doing some gentle exercise. Today I've given the dog walking a miss again. My cold seems to be much improved today, although I'm still coughing as though I smoke 60 cigarettes a day! (never smoked a single one in my life!) Going out into the cold doesn't seem to help so I've stayed indoors today and not really done a great deal. Bit of a waste of a day to be honest! I kept looking at my treadmill but don't even seem to have any enthusiasm for that today. I'm sure that once I get back into my routine and I'm dashing around working, doing housework and all the usual stuff I'll feel more motivated. It seems to me that the more time I have on my hands the less motivated I feel.
WEDNESDAY - C25K -Feeling a little better again today. Still got a bit of a cold and still got a cough which comes and goes but at least I feel a little more enthusiastic about working out today. Odd really - I thought I'd be well unhappy today, it being my milestone 50th birthday and all that! I have to admit that I didn't really want to go to sleep last night because I knew I'd be 50 when I woke up. Silly really, it's just another day, same as yesterday and the day before, and tomorrow! I hope that my 50's will see me as a fitter healthier person. I hope more good health and happiness. Wealth would be nice too but Health and Happiness are something that money can't buy. Do you know, whenever I make a wish for anything it's always Health and Happiness. Hhmmm.. well I can see that when you hit 50 you start to ramble so I'm going to close now.

| Bobby - After Our Dog-Jog - Yawn |
THURSDAY - Rest Day -I did what I call my "dog-jog" today I popped on my ipod "ears" and went for my usual week day morning dog walk - throwing in a week one c25k workout into the mix. This is ideal for us and pretty low impact. I've been saying that I'm not going to take to the streets until I've nailed the full 9 weeks of the c25k, however, I thought I'd give it a go just to see what running on concrete is like. The oldest of my two dogs is heading towards 12 years old - far too old to run any great distance these days, however she's a perfect running partner as she runs steadily by my left heel and never pulls. Bobby is much younger and fitter, runs on my right side and pulls like a train! Not too comfortable. They both seem to love this new faster type of walk but because of Bobby's pulling I don't think we'll do it too often! One things for sure - it wears both of them out so not too much mischief when I go out to work!
FRIDAY - C25K - back on the treadmill today - walking at 3.8mph and jogging at a nice slow 4.5 I'm finding it fairly easy going - but I'm sure that things are going to get much tougher very soon! Still got a cold and cough but even so I'm not having to miss any of the jogging sections yet. I'm sure it's coming - I've read other peoples reports. I know that after this week this probably isn't going to be a walk in the park!
SATURDAY - Rest Day -Wow! Today I managed to jog OVER a mile (ok when I say jog - it was a very slow jog - in fact it was probably more walking pace for some people - a mere 4.4mph! But it was jogging and I managed to do it without my HRM beep beep beeping like crazy at me! (that's the reason I kept it so slow - to avoid upsetting my HRM!) Yah me! I think I'm going to manage to jog 5k this year! I really do feel that I can do it!
Ah - did I state that today was a REST DAY? Hmmmmm I sort of forgot! ;) Besides, it's good to push yourself now and again, isn't it?
SUNDAY - C25K -today is my final week 3 workout. I must admit that my legs felt a little bit tired today - obviously not rested after my jolly jog yesterday! Ach well, it had to be done! I'm really looking forward to seeing what week 4 will bring!
Continue to watch this space!
Thanks for popping by - it would be great if you could leave a comment. Constructive criticism is welcome or just leave a message to say you popped by so I know I'm not talking to myself!

Glad your feeling better Netty. Happy birthday to you, don't worry about being 50 as I'm nearing 60 and feel great. Good luck with the C25k. My run is due today but I'm going to hang on which tomorrow as my treadmill arrives and I'm dying to try it out. Besides I have Zumba class tonight. Love your blog. I still have a lot of work to do on mine yet but I'll get there :-)
Bobbie looks tired out...Bless him :-)
You aren't talking to yourself Netty. The Mysterons are always listening......
