C25K - Week 9 - The final push!

Week 9 and I'm at The Final Push - not only that - I've entered myself in the RACE FOR LIFE - so I really do need to stick with this and stay focused so I can RUN this 5k and not just walk it.

MONDAY - Rest Day - START OF A NEW WEEK! - As I start to head towards the finish line of the C25K Treadmill Torture (2x 30 minute runs and a 35 minute graduation run to go before I complete the program) I've been wondering where I can go from here?  I had thought that I might try to build up to 8k and see how that goes.

Over the weekend I saw this report on the BBC web site http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13403532 about how the organisers of the Race For Life are struggling to get ladies to sign up to it this year for a variety of reasons.  I'd been talking about doing the Race For Life for several years now and prompted by my own mums recent fight against cancer I had fully intended to register for this years Race For Life but hadn't quite got round to it!

I decided it was time for me to put my money where my mouth is and sign up!

I've been updating my blog on a weekly basis while I've been doing C25K but I'll probably update it more frequently between now and 9th July - my Race For Life day - just to keep myself motivated - if I'm talking about it and keeping YOU informed about my progress I can't back out.  Please consider sponsoring me too - there's no better motivation than knowing I have to EARN  your donation! Please consider clicking the Sponsor Me Link - even if you can only afford £1 - every penny counts! :)

TUESDAY - C25K day - The prospect of increasing my run time scares me to death! In fact, I almost talk myself out of achieving the ever increasing run time because of this fear and on day 1 I always feel stressed because I know I'm expected to run further and for longer than I've ever ran in my entire life!

Today Neil came home and reported that one of his workmates laughed when he told him he had to sponsor me to run 5k.  This particular chap was in the army - so 5k is nothing compared to the distances he used to run - with a pack on his back!  Neil pointed out that I'm doing amazingly well and up until a few months ago I'd only ever run 100 meters and that was when I was at school!  I took the laughter in good heart and I WILL get the last laugh - I've told Neil that this particular workmate will have to donate an extra fiver for taking the mick!

WEDNESDAY - Rest day - I'm going to have to up the anti a little if I'm going to have a hope in hell of running the Race For Life. (although it's perfectly acceptable to walk - I'd like to run it for my own sense of personal achievement) I've decided I'm going to take my running to the great outdoors once I finish the C25K program on my treadmill. The ease myself into this I'm going to start doing a little more running when I'm out with my dogs.  The main problems I have when running with my dogs - they like to sniff, they like to stop and do wee's and poops (which I then have to clean up!)  and Phoenix is rather old now and I don't want to put any unnecessary stress and strain on her heart by running too much. This might mean I'm going to have to get up earlier to go out on my own before I take the girls for their morning walk.  OR I might just continue to jog with the dogs - we'll see!

THURSDAY - C25K Day -I'm BUZZING  like you wouldn't believe today!!
We were up at 5am again - only because Neil was doing yet MORE overtime  - the sun was up, I was up and out my girlings and I went for our regular week day walk!  3.1 miles later, dogs fed, me watered I hopped on the treadmill.

Today I felt more confident.

While I was out walking I'd been thinking about this mornings run and decided to increase my running portion by 2 minutes.

2 more minutes - doesn't seem a lot does it?  Well, I guess it's not!

The reason for doing this?  Today is Week 9 Day 2 - Week 9 involves a 5 minute warm up walk a 30 minute run and a 5 minute cool down walk.   Now, I peeked at Graduation Week - and the run jumps (well - steps up) from 30 to 35 minutes.  I just KNOW that on Graduation day I'll be talking myself out of being able to run that amount.  So, today I decided to increase my running time to 32 minutes.   On day 3 I will increase the run time to 34 minutes and then on Graduation Week - I'll be there already - all bar one minute - which will be no problem psychologically!

Anyway, TODAY I RAN FURTHER AND FOR LONGER TIME THAN I'VE EVER RUN BEFORE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.....and that's why I'm BUZZZZZZZING!    Go Me!

FRIDAY - Rest DAY - Bugger that for a lark I thought!   I took my girls on a wonderful 4.20 mile walk today - the sun's out and it's a fantastic day to be alive!  I'm in good health, I have a great family and no worries on the horizon - so I thought I'd worry myself by jumping on the treadmill and doing WEEK 9 DAY 3 of my C25K Treadmill Torture!  Strictly speaking this is a rest day as I did day 2 yesterday but I'm going to a family wedding tomorrow and wont have time for my run (unless I get up at Stupid O'clock on a Saturday after a night on the beer - probably not a good idea!)

**I decided not to jog the full 3.1 miles - I wanted to leave this achievement for GRADUATION DAY which I hope to find time to do on SUNDAY :)

SATURDAY - Rest Day -  I attended a wedding today - when i took my dogs out we only covered 1.4 miles but I did jog a good portion of that until my old girlie Pheonix decided she really didn't want to run!
