Not only was I very idle, I indulged in my second favourite hobby (after running) and that is partaking in Booze o'clock and hot on the heels of Booze o'clock comes my next favourite hobby - Food o'clock! Because I was a little bit greedy on my holiday I put on 3lb while I was away so I'm now weighing in at 8 stone 3 and 3/4 lbs and I really do need to nip this in the bud and work some of it off!

While I was away I was looking on with envy when I saw joggers out and about, and I read Runners World just to keep me in the jogging mood, but I'd not bothered to take any running shoes with me so I really had no option but to kick back and be idle!

My enjoyment of alcohol and cake and all sorts of good foody type things is partly why I started to run - eat more - exercise it off! Seems like a good plan to me! ;)

FASTEST LAP* Not sure how the hell this happened. I've never run a mile in under 10 minutes before so this is a very proud day for me! Endomondo was picking me up correctly at the point where I did this lap even though it was arsing around at other points. I do remember that Bananarama came on my ipod with "It aint what you do it's the way that you do it" - and I do like this song - its got a good running beat/pace for me. Also, at around this point I saw a jogger heading towards me so I stretched out my stride a little, concentrated on breathing properly (trying not to huff and puff too much!) and tried to "glide" along instead of shambling along and I thought to myself :
RUN LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING NETTY!
Maybe seeing this fellow jogger and trying to impress him had a good effect on me! Anyway - it's been a long time coming and goodness knows when I'll get under 10 minutes again but it was a great feeling when endomondo gave me my lap time. I have to admit to yelling outloud - "ooohhh fookin awesome Netty!" (and then quickly checked behind me to make sure nobody was within hearing distance!)

I did Week 5 Day 3 on my treadmill. I had intended to go outdoors and do the run but when I got in from work my dogs looked at me with such sad eyes that I decided to take them out for a quick walk. When I got in I felt further guilt at the prospect of leaving them home alone when they'd already been alone all day long (oohh my dogs have got me wrapped around their cheeky little paws!) so I stayed home and jumped on the treadmill.
I did all of my c24k training and my Bridge to 10k training on the treadmill and I honestly thought that it was the easier option. Today I've changed my mind. I suffer quite badly from overheating (must be my age) so not having a cooling breeze blowing in my face wasn't pleasant at all. By the time He-Who-Must-Be-Ignored arrived home I was dripping with sweat and declaring that I was going to foo*** die! The only good thing about doing this particular workout on my treadmill was that during the RUNNING sections I was able to set the speed at 6 miles per hour and stick with it. When I'm outdoors it's easy to slacken off a bit when I get too tired or out of breath or just because my mind wanders and I forget that I'm supposed to be upping my pace!
All in all, a good workout. I thought I was going to die! I didn't die! Roll on day 4!

Nice morning for an easy jog! Just a gentle 25 minutes of running - excellent!
Cool (51*f) - dry and overcast. Even though this was only a 25 minute jog I was out of puff when I'd finished! Have taken a sneaky look at my next two workouts. SCARY! Day 5 I can probably cope with BUT day 6 - OOOHHHhhhhh My Goodness! Not looking forward to Friday and Sunday this week I can tell you! I might just die! I sort of feel that I'm at the limit of how far I can run - but then I keep on telling myself that I never thought I'd be able to run 3 miles (which I can now do fairly easily and on a regular basis)
I wonder if each person has a limit to how far they can run, or is each and every one of us capable of running a half marathon if we train slowly and carefully and long enough?

OMFG - what WAS I thinking of when I started this 13.1 training? Today's workout was 1 hour 25 minutes long (when I looked at it before starting and it was in mere minutes it didn't seem to bad - it wasn't until the end of the workout that I actually THOUGHT about the actual time involved!!) I rather liked the idea of all the nice walking breaks during this session - somehow it made it seem not quite so bad..... how wrong can one person be?!

All morning I'd been building up to doing this workout.
It was a dull overcast morning and I thought it'd be perfect for getting outdoors and getting this run in after I finished work .... and then half an hour before I was due to start the sun came out and things started to warm up. As I set off it was 64*f - and I was already feeling concerned that it was too warm for me! (have I mentioned at all that I tend to overheat quite quickly?) I decided that it'd be safe to head into my local park (lots of mums around taking their kids to feed the ducks and such like) It was heaven under the canopy of the trees running along side the lake!
Lovely and cool and just wonderful! Of course, as soon as I came from under the shelter of the trees the heat from the sun hit me (when I say heat - well, I know that for some people it wouldn't be hot at all - but here in the UK any sort of sunshine is considered hot as we don't really see much sunshine!)

| Hot, Sweaty, Tired, Happy |
By the time I staggered home it was 69*f No wonder I was so chuffing hot while I was out! I stayed cool by pouring some of my water onto the top of my head which then dribbled down my back - ahhh nice! :)
My after run shower has never been so welcome!
What a bloody wonderful day to be alive!
I've also perfected a new tactic for looking like I know what I'm doing! If I pass another jogger - or perish the thought, if I pass a group of workmen (like I did today - they were sitting having their tea breaks) I glance meaningfully at my watch as if I'm really interested in checking how well I'm doing and then take a few longer strides until I'm out of sight! In actual fact my eyes are so full of sweat and are so ruddy old and tired that I can see cock all anyway - but it looks good!
As Endomondo screwed up big time I had to do a manual input. I have tracked the distance as accurately as I can.
Now that I've had time to have a shower and digest the days run I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT THERE ON SUNDAY FOR DAY 6!
BRING IT ON!
WEEK 5 DAY 6
5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
60 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Did I really say BRING IT ON?
Lunatic!
Cool morning 60*f or so. Overcast - very quiet at 7.30 as everyone except me seemed to be in bed! Perfect!
My legs began to protest almost immediately - I knew they weren't 100% recovered from my Friday run but I've got a busy few days ahead of me so I needed to get this run out of the way! The aching legs did make sure I kept to a slowish pace though, so it wasn't all bad!
About a quarter of a mile into the run I got a text message - I heard it arrive but didn't check it - I knew it would be Daughter-Type-Person - too late DTP - I was already on my way!
Although my legs ached I was ok until dot on 2 miles into the run - then I got a twinge in my right foot - which niggled and niggled for the duration of the run.
Today I did what I call the Sainsburys Round Robin - or I would have done. As I turned out of Triton Road into Skellingthorpe Road I noticed that the lovely chaps from Network Rail had closed the level crossing off for repairs!
Bastards!
I could almost smell my bacon butty and coffee from here (well, not quite but you get the picture) but I had no other option than to turn around and trace my steps back the way I'd come!
How demoralising was that? :(
My legs were very heavy by now! Luckily for me my lovely friend Janet was giving me pep talks this morning - so I was chatting happily back to her (not that she could hear - but it made me feel good knowing I wasn't alone) and I comforted myself by saying that if anyone passed me they'd assume I was talking to somebody using hands free on my phone!
And talking of somebody passing me..... there I was, chatting away to myself (and not to Janet) saying "I refuse to acknowledge that my foot is hurting! I CAN'T feel any pain from my foot - I REFUSE to be in pain......" when I'm passed from the rear by a lady on a pushbike. She laughed as she went by so I continued to chatter to myself... "now you're talking to yourself you crazy person - BE SILENT or you'll get locked up"!
