C25K - Graduation Day!

Graduation Week - C25k Complete!

Brief Overview of how I got on.

Over the past few days (leading up to my graduation run) a few people have piddled on my parade by sneering at my efforts and making me feel as though I'm not really achieving much because I run on a treadmill....   I know that running on a treadmill is much easier than running outside but running on my treadmill gives me a degree of protection for my ankles (which have caused me a few problems when I've done my runs outside)

It makes me sad that people can't just say Hey - Well done Netty - you're doing great - you're a runner!    I'm quite capable of putting myself down thank you very much - I don't need others to help me in this!

Anyway, sod those people who don't want to encourage me and praise me for doing something I never thought I'd do!  I'm very proud of myself - so there!

Now Onto The Important Bit:
Just as I was about to start my run my lovely friend Janet asked how many minutes I was expected to run (according to my running plan)  When I told her the run was 35 minutes she seemed surprised and said HER running plan told her that her graduation run would be 45 minutes long! Well, I double checked mine and it was certainly telling me I had to run 35 minutes so off I went.  For the first few minutes of jogging my legs usually feel a bit heavy and protest a little at being made to work hard but then things settle down and I just get on with it.   I set a timer on my blackberry for 35 minutes and check it now and again to see how much longer I've got. For the last 10 minutes of my 35 minute run I was feeling a bit heavy legged and hot and sticky (yuk) so I had to drop me speed down to 5mph but how strange - as soon as my timer went off I got a second wind (and I don't mean I was power assisted by farts!) and I thought - hey I can run a little longer, so I did!  Those extra 10 minutes seemed so much easier than the previous 25 or so!  Probably because I KNEW I could stop whenever I wanted.

I was BUZZING like you wouldn't believe when I realised that I'd GRADUATED and I can now call myself a RUNNER!

Duration Calories Av. ♥ Max ♥ Distance Walk Speed Running Speed * Notes
55.175051521694.57 3.8 5-5.5 * Jogged 4 miles in total

So, I'm a runner - I've worked hard to become a runner and I'm going to continue with my efforts. Please consider sponsoring me as I run in the Race For Life for Cancer Research UK

Thanks for reading. Please leave me a comment - even if it's just to let me know you passed through....

Nevermind the haters! I have to run on grass in the park as concrete is too hard on my knees i run in a large circle and get attacked by about ten dogs every run. You can tell by the sneers that the owners are not keen on someone running on "their" dog exercise yard. ;)
