10k is a long way away from where I am right now (some 3odd miles away in fact) however, we're giving it a go! At the same time we're trying to raise money as we're both taking part in the Race For Life for Cancer Research UK - a fantastic charity which is funded by public donations.

This is how my first week of Freeway 2:10k has gone....
Monday: I've been quite active over the weekend. On Sunday I GRADUATED C25K and kicked it's arse a little by continuing to run longer than I was required to - and logged a run of 4 miles. Today should have been a rest day but I thought I'd give it a go as Week 1 takes me back to running Intervals again. 5 minute warm up, 4 minute jog, 2 minute walk repeated 6 (?) times before a 3 minute cool down walk. How hard can that be when you can run 4 miles I ask you? Actually, when you don't rest properly and give your leg muscles a break it can be quite taxing!

Wednesday: OK - so I have the running bug! Yesterday I should have had a REST DAY which would have left my legs well rested and in good form for my podrunner intervals today...however, there I was, out with my girlings and I just COULD NOT RESIST THE URGE TO RUN...... so, my legs were tired again today. I really MUST take my rest days. I still did the workout though, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it better if I was well rested!

Friday:Yesterday I was good. I WALKED my dogs and even thought I really wanted to run for a while I decided to make sure I had a rest day. The result? My legs felt much better today and my workout was much more enjoyable. Rest Days - They're the future!

Saturday: Crazy fool that I am - I accepted an invitation from my daughter and her girlfriend to jog down to a (not so) local pub and back. We decided to do Week 1 Day 1 of C25K to keep it nice and easy for the two non runners - and also to keep it nice and easy for me because although I've been running, most of that has been on the treadmill - a whole world away from running outdoors!
The two of them were a little startled as I upped the walking pace from a saunter to a proper (almost) POWER walk right at the beginning of the workout, swinging my arms as I went - well, you have to get the old heart pumping, don't you?
After the 2nd jogging interval daughter #1 was having problems with her ankles and I thought we were going to have to phone He-Who-Must-Be-Ignored to pick her up from the pub! Bless her heart - she just ignored the pain and carried on! That's MY girl :) I think that next time we go out they'll have to have the ipod to keep them motivated and moving! I thoroughly enjoyed the run - and it's eased my mind a little about whether I can jog outside... yes I CAN! Ok, so I have to go VERY SLOWLY but it's the finishing that matters - not the speed!
Race for Life? BRING IT ON!
