Ye Implement Of Torture
MONDAY - C25K - START OF A NEW WEEK and today I'm pleased to report that I was minus one thing as I started my run - A HANGOVER - and things were a little easier!  I'm now out of my comfort zone  and I'm actually having to work at this running lark instead of just cruising through it... but that's a good thing isn't it?  I mean, it actually means that I'm now having to work ruddy hard to do this.   Well, maybe not THAT hard - but it's no longer a walk in the park! This is the point where I usually give up on things - when I have to start working hard so I'm expecting a few kicks up the arse if I show any signs of shirking my workout. Thoroughly enjoyed my workout today - even though I had to get up early on a Bank Holiday to get it done before it got too hot in my conservatory!  After about 15 minutes of running my calves started to hurt even though I'd done some warm up stretches before starting so I distracted myself by looking at my picture wall (must get round to changing some of the stuff around soon to keep it interesting...) and after I got bored with that I resorted to "Udder Hands"  (if you can't remember, don't ask - it's one of my barking mad distraction tactics that keeps me amused!)

Goodbye Bank Holiday - Hello Early Start!

TUESDAY - Rest Day - He-Who-Must-Be-Ignored was up at 4am for work today - so that meant the dogs were awake - and once Bobby is up everybody is up! So, off for a very early morning walk we jolly well went!
Today I realised just how far I've come and how well I'm doing.  A few years ago I used to have a little jog when we were out and I struggled to jog from one lamp post to the next - and I pretty much couldn't jog between 2 lamp posts.  Today I "walked" 3.22 miles and I'd say I jogged around 50% of that time. I'm well impressed. I used up 238 calories doing that whereas a walk of a similar length would use up about 125 calories.  Not that I'm particularly interested in the calorie part of it any more.  The challenge of C25K is where my interests lie.  I might just find myself out there instead of on my treadmill soon - you never know!

WEDNESDAY - C25K DAY - I decided to listen to some music of my own today instead of the podcast today and set a stopwatch on my phone so I could keep an eye on my running time so I did 25 minutes of running.   Today I listened to Queen, Dire Straights and Bowie.  It made the time go a little faster listening to stuff I like rather than that beat beat beat beat beat stuff on the podcast.  It's ok but my own stuff makes a change.

THURSDAY - Rest Day -Just a dog walk to report today - not 100% sure how far we went as my Endomondo GPS was arsing around... probably walked around 2.3 miles which is ok.  My older dog Phoenix is getting a bit skinny.  We used to go out for what I called a "utility" walk (just so she could stretch her legs and have a sniff about) Now we cover a few miles most mornings.  I'm pretty sure she likes it but it does wear her out. She's getting on in years!

FRIDAY - C25K DAY -  My day started with the usual dog walk - covering around 2.75 miles (not exactly sure as my gps on Endomond was playing up!)  Dog walk is quickly followed by jumping onto the treadmill for my C25K training. Once again I listened to my own stuff and set a timer on my phone.  Today I listened to Queen, Simply Red, Annie Lenox and Chris Rea   The time went well and although my legs ache at least I managed to finish with a quick burst of 6mph!  Hurrah!
As if I hadn't done quite enough - I finished my exercise day by doing a 2.5 mile walk on the treadmill - I did a few odd bits of jogging along the way but mainly it was just walking.  I did up the incline quite a bit though - getting upto 7 which is quite telling on the old calf muscles!   I did have a bit of an ulterior motive though - as Friday night is darts night and that can only mean one thing - Beer o'clock!

SATURDAY - Rest Day - After a rather lazy start (couldn't drag my idle arse out of bed until 7am) my girlings and I started out on a short walk which ended up as a 4.34 mile walk!  What a lovely stroll! The only thing that spoiled it was feeling nervous about venturing out where it's too quiet. It's very sad when  lovely walk is overshadowed by feelings of being in an unsafe situation.  Men are very lucky that they don't have to have this feeling of vulnerability when they're out.   Lincoln is a very safe place on the whole but it's always at the back of my mind that it might not be safe to be walking in secluded areas.

SUNDAY - RUN A MILE DAY   -Well, I used to think I'd run a mile if anyone suggested I should run - but here I am, actually jumping on my treadmill and ENJOYING my workouts!  What is that all about?  Today I walked a mile, jogged a mile, walked 3/4 mile, jogged 1.25 miles then walked and jogged the rest in brief increments up to 4.42 miles in total. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and was burning hot when I'd done. Even though it's early and it's a wet day today it's rather warm in the conservatory today. I wonder what it's going to be like in the summer?! Yikes!

Thanks for continuing to read my blog. I really do appreciate the feeling that I'm not alone - it spurs me on because I know that eyes are watching me so I can't give up!  I'm not sure what's been going on with my colours this week. I'll try to make things look a bit more pretty next time!
