Asics Adverts & My Weekly Update

Running Releases More Than Just Sweat

I think I might do some beach running in Egypt when I'm away in December

I thought I'd do another update - although there's not a great deal to report - but it just keeps things up to date for when I read back on the blog in a few years time - this will serve as a reminder of why I've not been running these past few weeks.

So, this week I've been sporting a very Irritated Head with an occasional appearance by my Frustrated Head! All of my heads went for a hair cut this week too - so WHEN I get back to running my hair should stay out of my eyes and not annoy me!

The pictures I've put on my blog today are Asics adverts. I was inspired by one I saw on the back page of this months Runners World (although I wasn't able to find that image online and I'm just too comfortable on my sofa right now to go and do a scan of the picture!) which declares that Running Releases More Than Just Sweat.  I've been saying for quite some time that I thought running helped with my stress levels.  Now some people (Neil) would say that I have no stress in my life at all.  I have a lovely little part time job which involves a little light housework and sitting down having cups of tea with my elderly service users. We have food in the cupboard and our bills are paid.  What's there to be stressed about?  Well, I don't know!  But something  obviously does give me stress because I get a huge knot in my left shoulder which hurts like mad! It's been building up for the past few weeks so I think I can say with some degree of certainty that stress gives me knots and running relieves this stress!

Sometimes I feel like a dragon is snapping at my heels
As you can probably gather, I'm still not back to running and up until yesterday I was still struggling to even walk at anything other than a snails pace! Even my old dog Phoenix has been pulling me along, getting most frustrated because I'm holding up her walk!  This has been a far cry for the 4 mile walks the girls were getting in the summer. I've barely managed a mile each day this week (except for Sunday - more on that later...)  I was seriously starting to think that my injured foot would NEVER sort itself out again!  Mid week it did feel quite a bit better and I briefly wore my Hopeful Head only to have my hopes shattered when I found myself back to square one again.

Although it's my foot that's injured it does have a knock on effect on other parts of my body.  I've been limping quite badly on the effected foot, trying to protect it while getting on with my daily life. This has thrown the rest of my body out of balance.  My stress shoulder is really playing up again and my hip on the opposite side to my injury hurts.  My back also hurts. What a right royal pain in the arse this is!  (and NO before you ask, my arse doesn't hurt - well, only a little, from all the sitting down I'm going!)

Probably the worst aspect of this temporary lay off has been finding myself at home feeling bored when I would have been out running. To stave off this boredom I've found myself hobbling into the kitchen to find things to snack on.  Mostly chocolate, wine, liquorice allsorts, yoghurt (scoffing a few pots at a time so my dogs can  have a container each to lick), biscuits -  but pretty much anything I can lay my hands on if I'm honest!  When I did my Saturday morning weigh in I was pretty amazed NOT to have put any weight on this week. I feel like I'm a few pounds heavier and don't feel at all good about myself.   Eating seems to be a kind of self destruct thing with me.  I'm bored. I'm in pain. I'll eat!

Looking on the bright side, yesterday I was able to walk down to the vets with my girls (oohh were they pleased I was fit enough to get them to the vets or what...!?)  and this morning when I got up I've been able to walk around and not even notice any discomfort in my foot.

Perhaps I'm fixed?!

As I mentioned earlier I did manage to do a longer walk last weekend when my family and I went geocaching. It probably wasn't the best of ideas to go on a long walk with an injured foot but I thought if I went slowly it'd be fine.  It wasn't! But hey ho!  You live and learn! It set me back a few days but not to worry!  Even Neil seemed to enjoy it. Actually, Neil and I seemed to enjoy it more than Hayley and Leigh!  They like the cache and dash type caches and didn't seem to have the patience for the more difficult ones.   There are 3 caches that we didn't locate last weekend. One of them already had a fellow cacher rummaging around - and from the looks on their faces when we  saw them arrive at the Pyewipe (pub) a little later, they didn't find it.  They've not put a found it on the cache log either.  I think this one will be a toughie!   So, we're starting at the pub tomorrow - fortify ourselves with a quick beer, head off to do some caching and then back to the pub for a concellation or celebration beer!  What a great way to spend an afternoon!  :)

Have a great week dear reader.  Hope to be reporting on some running next time I put fingers to keyboard!

Look forward to the beach running! Maybe I can do some in Nov too, but probably too early.

Be good with the dodgy foot. Get it fixed and stay off the snacks! Well, not completely off, obviously :)
