Getting My Moneys Worth Out Of The NHS!

This weeks blog is nothing to do with running.
It's more to do with being an idle sod.
This weeks blog is more about keeping a record for myself.
Actually, it's probably to do with my reactions to stress....

So, what a few weeks I've had!

Just over two weeks ago a routine test set alarm bells ringing with the practice nurse at the medical center where I'm registered - and of course, these alarm bells ALWAYS start ringing on a Friday afternoon when there's sod all you can do about them!

After a tense weekend and a stressful Monday (because the doctor who specializes in gynecology  doesn't work Mondays) I finally got to see the doctor on the Tuesday afternoon... and so the fun begins!  The practice nurse was fretting over nothing as it happens. The doctor confirmed that all looks fine given the circumstances.  She was rather horrified that I'm not on HRT (I had a premature menopause aged around 44-45)   and then found something she wasn't pleased about in my tum so she ordered an ultrasound scan as well as a bone scan.  Oh Joy!  I hate being messed around with by the medical profession.

Not too long ago I would have shrugged off these tests but with two close friends (one slightly younger than me and one slightly older) suffering from terminal cancer at the moment that's the first think that sprung to mind.

Stress!

My first reaction to stress is to sit on my arse and do nothing.
Actually, when I say "do nothing" I actually mean - sit on my arse and loose myself in a game on my xbox.  Ohh if only the miles that I clock up running around as my character on Skyrim  went towards my exercise quota for the day!

My second reaction to stress is to reach for the chocolate.
Followed by biscuits...
And then I scoffed enough Krispy Kreme donuts to sink a battleship!

All that sweet stuff and no running to burn off the calories.  Not a good thing!

At the time of typing my stress levels are receding. My first test results have come back perfectly fine. My ultrasound was fine.  Now for the bone scan - which is scheduled for Tuesday. I'm not really worried about that scan Hopefully it'll show that my bones are strong and healthy, although I'm feeling a bit scared that if they're not then the doctor might tell me I can't run any more.  If I remember rightly exercise if good for bone health so here's keeping my fingers crossed.

My lower back in still troubling me but I'm hopefully on the way to getting that sorted out. I'm using my gym ball every day and having regular visits to my chiropractor who pulls yanks and pushes me around!  She's continuing to stick needles in me - I really don't like it but she tells me that acupuncture is a very useful tool in getting me sorted!    I've started to do a little bit of light weight training too - which is great fun as our weights bench is in the garage which is just slightly about freezing right now!

I'm very impatient to get back to running but I'm starting to enjoy being an idle sod again.
