Returning From Injury

Well, true to my name I've been a very Idle Sod recently and it took an email from a Daily Mile buddy, Debbie, and a mention from my lovely friend Adrian regarding Endomondo  to get me back into logging my workouts!

Having hurt my knee quite some weeks ago (and in fairness it's only just healed) I've fallen into the trap of thinking that I can get away without doing any running.  To start with this was necessary as my knee was so swollen and bruised it would have been foolish to do any running on it.  However, it then healed a little and all outward signs of injury were gone.  I could still feel discomfort in it when I knelt down though - so being the Idle Sod that I am, I decided this was a good enough excuse NOT to do any running!  A couple of weeks ago I saw an NHS Physio about my "bad back" and he said I should consider continuing to run as it would be really good for me. Well, that's it I thought - no more excuses - so I have done 3 small Interval Training workouts on my treadmill in the past 10 days or so.

First one was a bit scary as I noticed every single twinge or twitch. No ill effects that I could notice though.

Second workout was a bit less scary.  I stuck to my plan to do a warm up walk followed by 5 minutes jogging and 3 minutes walking to ease myself back into training.

My third workout was ok too.  I increased the jogging increments by one minute and decreased the walking increments by one minute and I've not fallen apart at the seams just yet!

So, in truth - I AM still an Idle Sod.   I DO love to jog - I just keep loosing my way every now and again.

I suspect that my ambition to run a marathon wont happen.   I don't seem to be able to progress further than 10k at a maximum distance before some injury or other plagues me and calls a halt to my progress, however, if I spend the next 20 years being able to run a mere 5k or 10k then I will be happy.   It's easy to forget that less than 2 years ago I couldn't even run for a bus never mind contemplate running in a 5k race!

Thanks for reading!
Until I bore you again.....

Great to see you getting back at it!

Know what you mean about the injury/distance limit. A real bugger.

But at least we keep going!
