End Of Year Review

As December 2012 starts to draw to a close I thought I'd take a little time to look back on the year and see how things have gone.

Fame At Last! My Very Own Beer
Imagine how amused I was when I went out recently and realized that a local(ish) pub, The Three Horseshoes at Waddington was serving real ale named after my very own blog?  (well, almost named after my blog)   I was so pleased to see this that I decided to partake in a pint or three.  Very naaiiyshh.. hic   No wonder this has been a year when I've put on weight and not managed to run much!

My Daily Mile ticker tells me that I've done a mere 321 miles this year. I have done a little more than that - but not much more.

 Shame on me!

Is it any wonder I'm putting on weight?
Truth be told this hasn't been a great year at all. I had hoped to be running 10k on a regular basis - or even be up to half marathon distance by now but my efforts have been thwarted.  The year started reasonably well but I seem to have been beset by injury and lack of motivation!   First of all my back was giving me a great deal of pain, then I had a problem with my feet!  Then it was my daughters wedding followed by a surprise make over of her flat while she and her new wife were on honeymoon - all taking up time and keeping me away from running - not that I needed any excuse to skive off!
Probably the worst problem I've had was a bothersome knee which swelled up like a balloon and took me out of the running game for several months!

I did take part in the Race For Life here in Lincoln with Lee-anne and Hayley  and we all managed to run the distance (all be it slowly)

More recently we (me, my daughter and her wife) took part in the Santa Fun Run (again, here in Lincoln) All monies raised going to local charities.  This was a bit of a worrying day as it was less than 24 hours before Neil and I were due to fly out to Sharm El Sheikh for our Christmas holiday.  I was more than a little worried that one of all of us would sustain an injury and we'd already agreed that if the weather was anything other than perfect we'd walk very carefully and NOT even consider running!

HoHoHo - who is this bog eyed Santa?

You can't make me get out of the car dressed like THIS!

Lee-anne says "Can't believe mum signed us up for this"

Ho-Ho-Ho - The Three Santa's

Can You Spot Us? (1600 Santa's)
We didn't manage to run this one even though conditions were favourable.  Hayley hadn't done any running at all since June and struggled a little so we ran a while, walked a while, ran a while walked a while - and got a lovely medal for our efforts.  Even though we didn't manage to run this very short course (it was only 3k!) we did have a great time. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed, the weather was great - sunshine, not too cold and it was nice and dry and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

For entertainment along the course there was a lovely band playing Christmas carols and also a Traffic Warden ticketing cars which were parked in a restricted area by the Cathedral.
Merry Christmas!

We didn't go mad with the fun raising this year - mainly because we were so busy getting organized for our holiday that we pretty much clean forgot about the Santa Run!

Shame on us!

We did raise some money though and I'm surprised that even though I only raised £95 I'm not too far behind the biggest fund raiser of the year who has raised £107!   We hope to make the Santa Fun Run  part of our Christmas preparations in future. Hopefully we'll be walking round next year with either a heavily pregnant family member (not me I hasten to add!) or maybe with a new addition.

Here's hoping :)

Who IS this rum looking bugger?

In December I secured a place in a "Back Class" with an NHS physiotherapist so hopefully this will give me the tools to sort out my back problems.  I'm assured that if I do these core exercises twice a day for about 10 minutes they WILL make a difference!

So, injury and lack of motivation have been my main reasons for not running so much this year. But these are just excuses... and not real reasons for not getting my idle arse into gear and getting on with it!

As the year draws to a close I'm thinking about doing something that I've not done for many years (oy, you at the back - no smutty comments!)

I'm going to make a New Years Resolution!

I resolve to get my idle arse back into my running gear and get a little fitter in 2013.   To this end I've emailed a local jogging club to see if I'd be a suitable candidate to join them.

Watch this space!
