5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
20 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Busy day with the Dukes visiting so after a rather late night I had to be up nice and early to get my run done. This morning I tried out my new Best Friend out for the first time - it's good to have my music back on an ipod instead of on my phone.

WEEK 3 DAY 2
Tuesday 9th August 2011
5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
25 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Bright sunny day but still nice and cool - around 54*f this morning when I started out on my warm up walk. Today I tried out my new 13.1 Training app which I've downloaded to my ipod. I get to play one of my Playlists and the app cuts in over the music and tells me when to walk and jog. This has got to be easier than having a bit of paper threaded into my heart rate monitor? Nice simple to use app. Gentle lady's voice cuts in to tell me that I'm expected to do my warm up walk, then cuts in 5 minutes later to tell me to jog, then 25 minutes later she tells me that I can do my cool down walk. Only criticism - the voice over is a little bit too quiet even though I have my ipod on at a comfortable level - it's still loud enough to hear though, but could just do with tweaking up a little. Had a couple of pep talks from Adrian while I jogged. Pep talks really do work wonders, they focus my mind, keep me amused and lighten my steps because I know I'm not on my own. Many thanks Adrian for joining me this morning! :) NOTE TO SELF: must try to think of some amusing things to say when I do my next lot of pep talks to Adrian and Janet!Ah, and last but not least - my stats for the day:

WEEK 3 DAY 3
Wednesday 10th August 2011
5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
10 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE WALK
15 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Lovely cool day today. 54*f as I started my run. Cloudy and dull with light drizzle. Perfect for jogging - kept me nice and cool! Lots of people were out with umbrellas - GET A GRIP people of Lincoln! It's a bit of RAIN not sulphuric acid! ;) Had to take a bit of care as the pavements were a little bit slippery but overall a very good day to jog. My legs felt reasonable. I notice that my legs no longer feel heavy at the start of my jog. A few weeks ago they really protested at the start of my jog and took a half mile or so get settle down and feel ok. I'm not sure when this heavy feeling at the start of my jogging ended. I've only just noticed!

Quote From The WomenRunningTogether.com:
Running is a state of mind. The only thing that determines your success, or lack of success, is the way you think about your running. If it works for you – if it relieves stress, burns calories, gives you time to yourself, enhances your self-esteem – then it doesn’t matter what any other person or any stopwatch says about your running.
WEEK 3 DAY 4

5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
25 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Today it absolutely
I set off walking - it's surprising how far my little leggies can take me in 5 minutes, then when the nice lady on my app commanded I started to jog - a little splash or two of rain fell onto my arms. Not to worry I thought - it's only a bit of rain... so on I jogged as the rain continued to fall, until it was tipping it down and I thought - hmmm... I'm getting rather wet here! By this time I was too far away from home to turn tail and go back (Man up Netty - it's only a bit of rain - NOT sulphuric acid!) so I | Duration | Calories | Av. ♥ | Max ♥ | Distance | Walk Speed | Running Speed | Venue | |

WEEK 3 DAY 5
Friday 12th August 2011
5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
15 MINUTE JOG
8 MINUTE WALK
15 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Another early start for us today as He-Who-Must-Be-Ignored was out of bed at 5am as he needed to be in work for overtime. It was quite dark this morning. A combination of the time of the year (night lingering longer into the morning) and it was an overcast morning - no sign of the sun! I was surprised that the temperature was 60* when I set out on my workout and it was rather humid (86%) :( Not fun to jog in when it's humid. Today I forgot my chewing gum too - which I find helps me concentrate and keeps my mouth nice and moist. I was truly Captain Slow today. My first mile was particularly slow and I didn't seem to be able to pick up the pace at all. My thighs ached a little but I'm surprised that my lungs cope so well with the running, as well as my heart (touch wood it remains that way!) This morning I met a chap I do some work for who was walking his dog (and for a change I was on a jogging interval not a walking interval) and do you know what, I didn't feel self concious or embarrassed in the slightest. I actually felt rather proud of myself as I jogged past and bid him Good Morning. Not too many weeks ago I would have cringed in horror at the thought of even seeing a STRANGER never mind somebody I know well! So, despite the weather, the lack of chewing gum, the aching legs and a few other niggly bits - I still enjoyed my workout - BUT I'm really looking forward to having a day off tomorrow!

WEEK 3 DAY 6
Sunday 14th August 2011
5 MINUTE WARM UP WALK
40 MINUTE JOG
5 MINUTE COOL DOWN WALK
Yesterday was a day off and I was looking forward to today's run with quite some considerable trepidation! I've never run for 40 minutes outdoors before, add to that the fact that yesterday I was at the wedding of our very dear friends Martyn and Paula. - 9.30 kick off followed by rather too much champagne on an empty stomach, followed by a huge dinner and lots of g&t followed by more food and more drinks then more food and drinks... you get the picture....?
I'd already posted onto FaceBook that I wasn't going to run this morning - however, when I got out of bed I felt bally marvellous! Not hung over at all! (which left me feeling rather amazed considering how much booze I managed to throw down my neck yesterday!) hic After messing about for an hour or so trying to decide if I'd do my running today I did finally get my arse in gear and get on with it! I gave He-Who-Must-Be-Ignored instructions on how to check where I was at any given time using Endomondo and even suggested he might like to pep talk me (he's not a very technical sort of a chap so this is like blinding him with science and asking him to perform a minor miracle!) I also instructed him NOT TO SAY ANYTHING RUDE as his pep talks would be available for anyone to see! My intention was to skirt into the local park (which was the scene of an assault on a lady recently - hence I wanted Himself to know exactly where I was) then onto the estate where I feel much safer. However, when I got down to the park it was heaving with dog walkers, joggers, regular walkers, volunteer litter pickers and all manner of other folks. I felt confident that I would never be too far away from help if I got into difficulty so I spent most of my jog down there. Jogging around Hartsholme County Park is so lovely - it's such a shame that I don't feel confident enough to go there on a more regular basis. It was a very bright and sunny morning - temperature around 68* and humidity at 72%. Under the canopy of the trees it was fairly comfortable but I did struggle today. My ankles and calves were playing up... probably because I was trotting around in high heels yesterday. Add that to eating and drinking far too much yesterday (even though I didn't actually have any outward symptoms of my debauchery) PLUS running for the longest time I've ever had to run outdoors and I struggled with this workout. Thank goodness for pep talks. One of them went something like this:Pep Talk From Adrian: Morning Netty, how's those legs after a night of drinking?
Netty: (replying apparently to thin air in a rather loud voice) Bloody awful Adrian and Thanks for asking!
At this point one of those volunteer litter pickers came into view from some bushes where he'd been working and gave me the oddest look...
Netty to Litter Picker: (big grin) I'm not talking to myself - really I'm not (sheepish grin)
Now, I could see how much I'd struggled when I saw how many calories I'd burned (tiredness or feeling unwell or other similar thing that makes me feel a little under par always = burning more calories) I used a whole 155 calories more than my previous workout - which can't all be explained by the extra time I spent jogging!
Today's Stats Are:
| Duration | Calories | Av. ♥ | Max ♥ | Distance | Walk Speed | Running Speed | Venue | |
| 50 mins | 455 | 151 | 167 | 4.01miles | * | * | Outdoors |
I suspect I'm going to drop my workouts down to every other day from now on as this will fit in better with my lifestyle. Actually, I'm going to play it by ear! If I fancy a run and I feel that I have time to get it done every day then I will do so - however, if I think I've not got the time to do it - or if my legs don't feel up to it then I will SKIP A DAY AND NOT FEEL GUILTY!
Catch you in Week 4..... :)

I do love your writing style and glad I can bring a smile whilst you're out running.
Well done on your longest outdoor run!
Thanks for your comment Adrian - it's great to have your continued support and nice to know I'm not talking to myself! (unlike my run in the park on Sunday!)
Great update! I have a lot I want to say, but not sure I can remember all I wanted to comment on. Interesting about your legs feeling lighter. There are times I start out running, and my legs feel like lead. blah!
Interesting idea about running with gum! I think I'll try it!
Hope your New Best Friend has a long lifespan!
And... Running in the rain. Here in Oregon it rains ALL THE TIME. When I started C25K most of it was in the rain, but I found it refreshing. Since summer came (finally) I still have yet to run in a downpour. I have a feeling it's just around the corner! Maybe I should consider putting my iPod in a ziploc?
