Some debate going on about week 9. On some c25k programs I've seen there isn't a week 9. On others there is a week 9 then there's a final graduation run at the end of it. Not quite sure about which program we're following to be honest! Lee-anne tells me how many minutes running we have to do and I keep an eye on it with my Garmin.
Anyways, Week 9 Day 1 went just fine. So far I'm remaining injury free which is an improvement on last years training! On Friday morning Lee-anne suggested that we just "Go for It" and run 5k. So we did! Simple as that! :)
We didn't die in the attempt. But I knew I could do it so this was about getting Lee-anne to run the distance, not about me running the distance. It was a nice early morning run round the housing estate where we live. No drama. No fanfare. Just a 5k run. Excellent!
I remember that last year when I graduated I was absolutely euphoric! This time I just enjoyed the run but didn't get a buzz from finishing the distance. The furthest I've ever run is about 7 miles (if I remember correctly) When I surpass THAT distance I'll celebrate! But that's a long way off.
I'm very proud of my daughter. The first 2 weeks of the c25k program she did nothing but moan and complain and doubted her ability but then she knuckled under and she's graduated.
Next step - we're going to continue to run 5k and we WILL run the Race For Life in July for Cancer Research UK. After we've completed that I'm hoping that Lee-anne will join me in doing either 8 or 10k training. She balked at the suggestion when I first mentioned it to her but I think she now feels that she could actually do that distance and didn't pale at the prospect when I mentioned it to her this morning. Then, who knows, maybe half marathon training and on to my ultimate ambition. Running a marathon. We will see... lets focus on 10k first!
