Pseudo Race For Life - Lincoln 2012

It seems like about a million years since I did any sort of blog update! Ok - so maybe not quite a million years - but a long long time!

Sorry about that!

Race Ribbons - the names of cancer sufferers
Sometimes real life just muscles in and refuses to give you the time or space to do other stuff.  This past month or so has been one of those times. Have I updated since our holiday in Egypt?

Not sure?!

How Many New Best Friends Can I Have?

We had a lovely holiday in Egypt during the first 2 weeks of June - it was very hot and even though there was a fairly decent gym at the hotel I struggled to do as much running as I would have liked. The air-con was on high but it was still very hot and sticky! While in that gym I discovered the joy of the Cross Trainer and I liked it so much
that I have ended up buying myself one.

At this rate there wont be any room left in my conservatory!

Fingers crossed it will allow me to exercise without the strain on my lower back and will make a change from just running!   My lower back is still giving me a little bit of trouble but I'm refusing to allow it to stop my running.   I'm seeing my chiropractor regularly, and she subjects me to the usual pulling and tugging around as well as acupuncture. I've also started to take supplements - cod liver oil and glucosamine, both of which are supposed to be good for the joints.  Oh, and I'm also taking Adcal D3 as I've been diagnosed with  osteopenia.  This is another reason not to allow my joints to sieze up and stop me from running!  Running will be very beneficial in helping my bones to be strong.

Lincolnshire Show Ground
My daughter and her partner have now completed the c25k program and we're looking to starting a 10k program next - starting part way into it though - probably at week 4 but before that there's the little matter of doing the Race For Life in Lincoln

Today (July 8th 2012) should have been the Race For Life for we folk of Lincolnshire. I say Should because there's been a slight hitch!  This is proving to be the rather a dreadful year for the weather.  We seem to have had nothing but rain since early March - with just a brief few weeks where we had decent weather before going back to rain, rain and yet more rain!   The trouble is, the ground is now sodden and many places are experiencing floods.

Soggy Streets Of Lincoln
Dark Skies Over Lincoln
On  Friday afternoon we learned that our event had been postponed - no new date has been set yet.  There are very few dates available when the venue, the Lincolnshire Show Ground, isn't already booked and our worry is that the event will be rescheduled when Lee-anne and Hayley are on honeymoon.  For this reason we decided to take the bull by the horns today, Race Day, and do our very own Pseudo Race For Life event!  At least we can tell our sponsors, hand on heart, that at least we completed our part of the bargain and ran 5k on this day - even if it wasn't at the agreed venue!

Post Run Drink And Rest!
Our run was a far cry from last years event. It makes me feel very sad that Lee-anne and Hayley have worked so hard to be able to run the distance but they might be cheated out of actually being able to do the run for real.   Even though we set off and ran the distance round our local park it's not the same as running with hundreds  of other like minded ladies.   We were pleasantly surprised to see a good number of other ladies down the park, running though. I think maybe we all had the same idea?

We completed the distance in a time of a little over 38 minutes. Not as fast as I would have liked but the area we were running in (like the rest of the country) was slippery, muddy and very very wet and to go any faster would probably have been dangerous!

For months I've been looking forward to finishing the crossing line with my two girls, together, as a team. We all held hands as we passed the 5k mark. Fingers crossed that the rescheduled event is on a day when all three of us are available and we can finish together at the real event.
